President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. expressed optimism that the Philippines will regain its standing as a top tourist destination in Asia following upgrades to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
During the launch of new facilities at NAIA Terminal 3, including biometric immigration e-gates and food halls, Marcos remarked that the airport finally "looks like a real airport" comparable to international standards.
The improvements come more than a year after the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), a private consortium led by San Miguel Corp., took over the airport's operations through a P170.6-billion public-private partnership.
The NNIC committed to enhancing NAIA's services and facilities over a 15-year concession period, with expectations of generating P900 billion in revenues and creating at least 58,000 additional jobs.
Marcos believes these developments are crucial steps towards achieving the goal of positioning the Philippines as a tourism powerhouse.
