Marcos offers P20/kg rice nationwide for his 68th birthday

Filipinos can purchase rice for P20 per kilogram at select Kadiwa stores nationwide on Saturday, September 13, in celebration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s 68th birthday.

The special one-day sale, called "Handog ng Pangulo," will be available in 100 Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) sites and accredited stores from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This initiative serves as President Marcos' birthday gift to the Filipino people, with the discounted rice accessible to all, not just vulnerable sectors.

To avail of the discounted rice, Filipinos are required to present a valid ID, and purchases will be limited to a maximum of 10 kilograms per person.

The Department of Agriculture projects that approximately 88,000 households, or about 352,000 individuals, will benefit from this special rice sale.

The P20-per-kilo rice was a significant campaign promise made by Marcos during the 2022 elections, and its implementation through Kadiwa outlets has been declared "successful" by the Presidential Communications Office.

The program, which began as a pilot in Cebu on May 2, has expanded to at least 223 sites nationwide as of September 5, and initially restricted to vulnerable sectors, it has since widened eligibility to include minimum wage earners, farmers, and fisherfolk.
