PBBM orders intensified crackdown on illegal POGOs

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed government agencies to intensify efforts against illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

He has instructed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Philippine Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to step up operations against illegal POGO and internet gaming licensees.

Marcos also urged local government units (LGUs) to remain vigilant and actively address suspicious activities within their communities, urging them to coordinate with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The President's directive follows previous orders in July, stemming from POGO links to serious issues such as human trafficking, prostitution, and murder.

DILG Secretary Juanito Victo C. Remulla, Jr. stated that shutting down these operations will not significantly impact the country's economy, as POGOs account for only 0.25% of the total gross domestic product.
