Vargas appointed acting ombudsman
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. appointed Deputy Ombudsman for Visayas Dante Vargas as the acting Ombudsman.

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is currently screening 17 applicants for the permanent Ombudsman position, with panel interviews scheduled from August 28 to September 2.
Among the candidates are Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla and Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan.
