Marcos Jr., DOH launch bivalent COVID vaccine rollout

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and the Department of Health (DOH) launched the national rollout of bivalent COVID-19 vaccines on June 22, urging Filipinos, especially the elderly and vulnerable, to get vaccinated.

The bivalent Pfizer vaccines target both the original COVID-19 strain and Omicron subvariants.

The Philippines received 390,000 doses donated by Lithuania and another 390,000 from the COVAX Facility.

Initial supplies have been allocated to all DOH-Centers for Health Development and the Bangsamoro government's Health Ministry, with Taguig-Pateros District Hospital health workers receiving jabs on June 22.

The bivalent vaccines are available as a third booster shot for individuals aged 18 and above in priority groups, specifically healthcare workers and senior citizens who received their second booster four to six months ago.

Health Secretary Ted Herbosa urged everyone, starting with frontliners and senior citizens, to strengthen their immunity by getting these bivalent boosters.

President Marcos emphasized that these government-assisted vaccines are free for all Filipinos.
