DOH-Calabarzon launches bivalent COVID-19 vaccination

The Department of Health (DOH)-Calabarzon launched its bivalent COVID-19 vaccination program on June 20 in Batangas City, starting with individuals in the A1 (healthcare workers) and A2 (senior citizens and adults with comorbidities) groups.

The initiative aims to provide enhanced protection against COVID-19 and its variants, with the bivalent vaccine offering protection against the original SARS-CoV-2 strain and the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants.

A total of 52,740 doses of bivalent vaccines have been allocated to the Calabarzon region, sourced from 391,860 doses donated by the Lithuanian government.

Batangas Medical Center chief Dr. Ramoncito Magnaye was the first to receive the bivalent vaccine in the province, considering it his third booster shot.

According to DOH-Calabarzon Director Dr. Ariel Valencia, booster shots remain crucial for ongoing defense against the virus, and individuals can receive the bivalent vaccine at least four months after their second booster shot.

DOH aims to vaccinate 244,052 individuals in the Calabarzon region with the bivalent vaccine.
