Marawi City mayor tests positive for COVID-19

Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra has tested positive for COVID-19, confirming his infection through an RT-PCR test.

He mentioned that he is currently experiencing only a dry cough and no other symptoms.

The mayor initially tested positive on an antigen test last Saturday, March 27, after undergoing a similar test in Manila on March 22 which yielded a negative result.

Gandamra had been in Manila on March 22 for meetings with Housing Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario and an official of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), and was involved in activities with the Task Force Bangon Marawi, including a groundbreaking for a halal slaughterhouse on March 25.

He is currently in quarantine and has advised those who had close contact with him to get tested or undergo quarantine.

The mayor urged constituents to remain vigilant in following health protocols, avoid non-essential travel and mass gatherings, and not to be afraid to get vaccinated.
