Manila mayor orders cases vs parents of curfew violators

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno ordered the filing of cases against parents whose minor children are apprehended for violating city ordinances, including those related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He believes that stringent measures are necessary to curb the spread of COVID-19, even if it means jailing negligent parents.

This directive followed reports of numerous individuals, including minors, violating ordinances such as mandatory face masks and curfew.

As of July 16, 2020, 34 parents and guardians of minors were arrested for allowing their children to violate quarantine rules, including mask-wearing and curfew hours.

Mayor Domagoso stated that these arrests were made to prove his warnings would be enforced and that he would not hesitate to jail irresponsible parents who put the public's safety at risk.
