Manila arrests 34 parents for minors' quarantine violations

Thirty-four parents of minors caught violating community quarantine rules in Manila have been arrested and will face charges.

This action follows a warning from Manila Mayor Isko Moreno that parents would be prosecuted if their children were found outside without face masks and during curfew hours.

The arrests were made by the Manila Department of Social Welfare and the Manila Police District in several barangays.

The parents will be charged under Manila City Ordinance No. 8243 (Anti-Child Endangerment Ordinance) and Republic Act No. 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act).

Mayor Moreno stated that the government would intervene to protect children if parents are irresponsible.
