Manila acquires 4 new COVID-19 serology machines from Abbott

The Manila City government has acquired four new COVID-19 serology testing machines from Abbott, boosting the city's testing capacity to 89,600 residents per month.

Each machine costs P6 million and utilizes blood samples with an accuracy rate of 99.6 percent, though confirmatory swab tests remain a requirement.

Mayor Francisco 'Isko Moreno' Domagoso stated that healthcare workers will be prioritized for testing.

The first three machines were distributed to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, Ospital ng Sampaloc, and Ospital ng Maynila, while the newest machine will be installed at Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital.

These machines can also detect other infectious diseases such as hepatitis, as well as cancer and thyroid diseases.

Manila City is the first local government unit in the Philippines to procure these specific serology testing machines.
