Malacañang: ICI not to be abolished, has distinct role from Ombudsman

Malacañang stated that there is no need to abolish the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) despite the appointment of a new Ombudsman, asserting that both bodies have distinct roles.

The government clarified that the Ombudsman's office handles a wide range of cases, not solely flood control projects, making the ICI's specialized focus still essential.

The ICI was created to specifically investigate irregularities in infrastructure projects, particularly flood control initiatives.

Malacañang believes that the ICI's function of gathering and investigating documents will actually expedite the work of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The ICI's role is to ensure the efficient submission of complete documents, which will then be processed by the Ombudsman and DOJ for potential legal action.
