Makati distributes P5k cash aid to over 114k residents in one week

The Makati City local government unit (LGU) has successfully distributed P5,000 cash assistance to 114,828 qualified individuals within just one week through its Makatizen Economic Relief Program (MERP).

Mayor Abigail Binay announced that the MERP aims to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Makati residents.

The distribution process was efficient and contactless, facilitated by a partnership with GCash, allowing for faster delivery of financial aid.

Out of approximately 250,000 applications received, 142,267 have been approved, while about 10,000 were rejected due to incomplete or incorrect information.

Rejected applicants will be notified and advised on the steps to rectify their applications, with assurances that the program has sufficient funding for up to 500,000 residents.

The LGU encourages residents to apply online through the Makatizen App or the www.proudmakatizen.com portal for faster processing, with approved applicants potentially receiving the cash aid within six working days of registration.
