NIR solons back Speaker Romualdez amid leadership rumors

A majority of lawmakers from the Negros Island Region (NIR), with the exception of two members, have declared their support for House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

Negros Occidental 4th District Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer stated that the National Unity Party and most NIR congressmen back Romualdez amidst rumors of a potential leadership change.

Ferrer mentioned that eight representatives from Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental have signed the manifesto.

Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Javi Benitez and his father, Bacolod City Rep. Alfredo "Albee" Benitez, did not sign the supporting manifesto.

Javi Benitez clarified that he remains part of the House majority, consistent with House Rules, as he voted for Romualdez when the 20th Congress convened.

Ferrer suggested that Albee Benitez might be interested in the Speakership himself.
