Magnitude 6.2 earthquake shakes Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck near Cagwait, Surigao del Sur on October 11, 2025, at 10:32 p.m., with its epicenter located 22 kilometers northeast of Cagwait at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The tremor, which lasted about 20 seconds, roused many people from their sleep, with Intensity IV felt in Davao City, Cagwait, and Carmen in Surigao del Sur.

Following the tremor, some residents in Cagwait went to the shore to check for unusual sea movements.

This earthquake occurred one day after a doublet earthquake in Manay, Davao Oriental, which resulted in at least eight fatalities.

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake later struck the waters off Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, on Sunday afternoon, October 12, 2025, at 2:56 p.m., originating 112 kilometers southeast of Cagwait with a 12-kilometer depth of focus.

No damage or aftershocks are expected from the magnitude 4.0 tremor.

Several consecutive earthquakes have been reported across the country in the last two weeks, including a magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 doublet in Davao Oriental on October 10, and nearly 11,000 aftershocks following a magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu on September 30.
