Magnitude 5.2 earthquake strikes off Ilocos Norte; aftershocks possible

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake of tectonic origin struck the waters off Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte at 4:14 p.m. on Friday.

Its epicenter was located 11 kilometers northwest of Pagudpud at a depth of 10 kilometers, with several instrumental intensities felt in Ilocos Norte and Cagayan.

Following this, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake rocked the area at 4:31 p.m., with its epicenter traced 13 kilometers northwest of Pagudpud at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Intensity II was felt in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, and Intensity I in Claveria, Cagayan, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Sinait, and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.

PHILVOLCS warned of potential aftershocks for the first tremor but stated no expected aftershocks or reports of damage for the second one.
