Magalong resigns as infra commission adviser

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. respects Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong's decision to resign as special adviser of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

Magalong stepped down from the panel investigating flood control projects after two weeks, citing "The Palace's pronouncements concerning his designation, which he described 'contrary to the terms of my appointment'" have undermined his role and mandate.

He also stated that circumstances have cast doubt on the ICI's independence, making his continued service untenable.

Despite his resignation, Magalong emphasized he will not neglect his responsibilities to Baguio City, which he considers the core of his public service.

Magalong has not yet spoken to President Marcos Jr. since his resignation.

The ICI was recently formed by President Marcos to investigate billions of pesos worth of allegedly anomalous and missing anti-flood projects nationwide.

The President had initially stated no politicians would be part of the commission, but explained Magalong's advisory role allowed him to retain his mayorship.
