LTO suspends 10 taxi, TNVS driver licenses for 90 days over overcharging

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver's licenses of 10 taxi and TNVS drivers for 90 days due to overcharging and illegal contracting of passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia).

These drivers were apprehended during a surprise operation at Naia on June 25 and have been issued show cause notices.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza stated that the suspension means the drivers will be unable to work for 90 days as a consequence of taking advantage of commuters.

The drivers are also facing a case for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, which could lead to the revocation of their driver's licenses.

This action follows viral incidents of extreme overcharging, including one passenger being charged P1,300 for a short trip between Naia terminals and another charged over P5,000 for a trip between different terminals.
