LTO orders dump truck owner, driver to explain EDSA carousel crash

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show-cause order against the owner and driver of a dump truck involved in a crash that damaged at least 16 concrete barriers and signages along the EDSA bus carousel in Quezon City.

The truck was reportedly bound for Taguig to deliver sand from Porac, Pampanga when the incident occurred.

The driver confessed that he fell asleep while driving.

The LTO is requiring both parties to appear at their Central Office on March 31 to explain their roles in the incident.

The truck owner must justify why she should not be penalized for allegedly hiring a reckless driver.

The driver, on the other hand, needs to explain his actions leading to the accident, including reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza stated that the agency is investigating the cause of the crash, emphasizing that such an incident is not normal.

Mendoza also mentioned that the investigation aims to determine if the driver was at fault or if excessive work hours contributed to the accident.
