LTFRB suspends UV Express ops after 1 dead, 14 hurt in QC collision

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended the operations of a UV Express unit involved in a collision on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City that killed one person and injured 14 others.

The LTFRB issued a show-cause order to the UV Express owner, requiring an explanation as to why their franchise should not be revoked, and impounded the vehicle.

The owner is held responsible for hiring the driver, identified as Ruel, who was apprehended after fleeing the scene.

According to police reports, the UV Express driver rammed several motorcycle riders while being pursued, then continued to drive recklessly, moving between lanes and hitting other vehicles while attempting to evade arrest.

The 54-year-old driver apologized for his actions but could not recall what triggered him to drive recklessly.

The LTFRB assured that appropriate legal action would be taken and expressed condolences to the family of the fatality.
