Lacson doubts P20 per kilo rice price target

Senator Panfilo Lacson expressed doubts about the feasibility of achieving the P20 per kilo rice price target, calling it "realistically, mahirap" (realistically, difficult).

He shared these sentiments during a press conference in Bulacan on Friday, February 28.

The P20 per kilo rice promise was a central campaign pledge made by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in 2022.

Other administration senatorial candidates believe that eliminating middlemen and allowing direct government purchases from farmers may help reduce prices.

Former Senate President Vicente Sotto III suggested that the government could purchase 50% of farmers' and fisherfolk's outputs at farmgate prices to ensure decent income for producers.
