BI nabs South Korean couple for large-scale fraud

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested a South Korean couple in Makati City for alleged large-scale fraud in their home country.

Choi Jeongyun and Kim Minwoo, both 41, were apprehended by immigration operatives at their residence on April 4.

The couple, who have been overstaying in the Philippines since 2019, are wanted by the Chucheon District Court in South Korea.

They are accused of operating voice phishing scams, defrauding victims of over $840,000 by impersonating bank representatives.

Choi allegedly served as a profit manager, while Kim worked as a manager and telemarketer for the syndicate since 2017.

Their arrest was based on red notices issued by Interpol, and they will be blacklisted from re-entering the Philippines after deportation.
