Kanlaon Volcano erupts anew, spews ash on Negros

A moderate explosive eruption occurred at Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, lasting five minutes and producing a plume that rose approximately 3 kilometers into the sky.

The eruption caused ashfall in at least 54 barangays across Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, with some residents from ashfall-affected areas in Bago City, La Carlota City, and La Castellana City remaining in evacuation centers.

More than 5,000 individuals remain in evacuation centers in some Negros Occidental towns following the eruption.

Phivolcs maintained Alert Level 3, indicating continued magmatic unrest and increased chances of short-lived, moderately explosive eruptions, with no recommendations to raise it to Level 4.

The existing six-kilometer evacuation radius remained unchanged, with a warning that the danger zone could expand to a ten-kilometer radius if Alert Level 4 is raised.
