Kanlaon Volcano eruption cancels AirAsia flights

AirAsia Philippines canceled several domestic flights connecting Manila to Iloilo and Bacolod due to a "moderately explosive" eruption at Kanlaon Volcano's summit crater.

The eruption, which occurred at 2:55 a.m., generated a greyish plume that rose approximately 4.5 kilometers before drifting southwest.

AirAsia is monitoring routes to Cebu, Tagbilaran, and Iloilo for potential ash cloud coverage, which could lead to delays.

Phivolcs reported that Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, indicating magmatic unrest.

Communities within a 6-km radius from the summit crater are advised to remain evacuated.
