Japanese fugitive linked to POGOs arrested in QC

A Japanese fugitive, Sasaki Yohei, allegedly linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) operating in Cambodia, has been arrested in Quezon City by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

Yohei, 36, was apprehended in Barangay Tandang Sora following a mission order from the BI deeming him an undesirable alien.

Authorities stated that Yohei escaped an anti-POGO operation in Cambodia in 2023 and is believed to be part of a Japanese telecom scam syndicate that used the Philippines as a hiding place.

According to a request from Naoki Matsuda, Chief Inspector of Omiya Judicial Police, Yohei is identified as a buyer of daily necessities and water-soluble paper for the syndicate and has prior criminal records including theft and breaking and entering.

Sasaki Yohei is currently in BI custody and faces potential deportation.
