IT expert Ivan John Uy appointed DICT secretary

IT expert Ivan John Uy has been appointed by President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to lead the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Uy previously served as the chair of the Commission on Information and Communication and Technology (CICT) under the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III.

Incoming Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles stated that Uy is an expert in technology law and well-experienced in information technology.

He oversaw the formulation of the Philippine digital strategy from 2011 to 2016 and is an international commercial arbitrator for IT-related disputes.

Uy is also the current corporate secretary of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and a Humphrey fellow of the University of Minnesota.

He plans to focus on digital infrastructure, a key program of Marcos, to empower citizens and address issues like poverty and job creation.
