Iloilo vice mayor's death ruled accidental firearm discharge

Police investigators have concluded that the death of Dueñas, Iloilo Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan was accidental and caused by a firearm discharge.

The conclusion was based on a recreation of the scene, testimonies, and examination of the circumstances.

Lamasan, a gun enthusiast with 10 registered firearms, reportedly asked to see the firearm, a race gun with a very light trigger, which had previously belonged to her partner, Lord Byron Torrecarion.

During the reenactment, Lamasan allegedly picked up the firearm improperly with her thumb on the trigger, leading to the accidental discharge which entered her abdomen with a hollow point bullet.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that the damage was extensive, and the bullet fragments were left inside her body.
