ICI inspects P9B flood control projects in Ilocos Norte

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) inspected flood control projects in Ilocos Norte, with contractors Curlee and Sara Discaya securing the majority of the 150 projects amounting to P9 billion.

ICI Special Adviser Rodolfo Azurin, Jr., Public Works Undersecretary Arthur Bisnar, and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong led the inspection team, which examined projects along the Bongo River and Sinigpit Creek in Nueva Era.

While no visible damage was observed due to prior repairs, Azurin stated that this does not absolve the contractor of liability, suggesting the repairs were part of the warranty.

Measurements of steel bars and dike dimensions were ordered to verify if the materials met required standards.

The inspection was hindered by the absence of project plans from Department of Public Works and Highways personnel, preventing a direct comparison with approved designs.

Public Works Undersecretary Arthur Bisnar assured that the ICI will be given full access to the agency's records and flood control projects, as directed by Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon.
