ICC deputy prosecutor Niang takes over Duterte case
International Criminal Court (ICC) Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang will lead the case against former president Rodrigo Duterte, taking over from Prosecutor Karim Khan who is on leave pending an investigation into misconduct allegations.
Niang, alongside Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan, has assumed the leadership, management, and administration of the ICC's Office of the Prosecutor.

Duterte was arrested in the Philippines on March 11 for charges of crimes against humanity related to alleged extrajudicial killings during his administration's war on drugs.
He is currently detained in the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, with a hearing on the confirmation of charges scheduled for September 23, 2025.
