IATF discusses easing OFW medical worker deployment ban

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) is continuing discussions on potentially easing the overseas deployment ban for Filipino medical workers.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles confirmed that the IATF has presented options to President Duterte regarding the deployment ban.

These options aim to address the concerns of healthcare workers, primarily nurses, who completed their overseas requirements but missed the original March 8 cut-off date.

Currently, only healthcare workers with perfected and signed overseas employment contracts as of March 8, 2020, are permitted for deployment abroad.

The President has the final decision on whether to relax the deployment ban, as the moratorium was his initiative.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III previously estimated that around 1,200 health workers could be allowed to leave if the proposal is approved.
