House comm backs Marawi rehab, service restoration

Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong expressed gratitude for the support of his colleagues in the House of Representatives towards the rehabilitation of Marawi City.

Adiong, who chairs the House Ad Hoc Committee on Marawi Rehabilitation and Victims Compensation, highlighted the unity, compassion, and cooperation shown by his fellow lawmakers.

The committee recently conducted an ocular site visit and public consultation in Marawi, inspecting critical areas such as temporary and permanent shelters, the proposed bulk water system, and the heavily affected zones.

During the visit, discussions also focused on restoring power to Marawi City through the LASURECO cooperative, with the House having recently passed a bill to address its financial challenges.

Regarding the water supply, coordination with the Department of National Defense was suggested to find a long-term solution for the bulk water system.

Adiong stressed the importance of restoring basic services like housing, electricity, and water for the reintegration of internally displaced persons (IDPs) into their communities.

Other 'Young Guns' in the House, including Reps. Rodge Gutierrez and Yevgeny Vicente Emano, were actively involved in addressing the city's service restoration issues.

Reps. Margarita "Migs" Nograles and Geraldine Roman pledged support for livelihood and entrepreneurship programs aimed at women IDPs.

Adiong reiterated that President Marcos and Speaker Martin Romualdez are committed to the swift and complete rehabilitation of Marawi City.
