215 lawmakers back impeachment raps vs VP Duterte

Around 215 lawmakers have endorsed an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

The articles of impeachment cite violation of the constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes, including a threat to the President's life.

Supporters of the Vice President argue that remarks about a supposed plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. were taken out of context or conditional.

Surigao del Sur Rep. Robert Ace Barbers stated that evidence supports the claim of a "kill plot" against Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua, tapped as a prosecutor, asserted that the impeachment process was not railroaded and followed constitutional procedures based on recent committee hearings.

This impeachment makes Duterte the first vice president to be impeached, intensifying the feud between the Marcos and Duterte clans.

Despite the serious charges, Vice President Duterte reportedly stated that being abandoned by a boyfriend hurts more than being impeached.
