House leaders back Cayetano amid speakership dispute

Leaders from the majority and minority blocs, along with several deputy speakers and representatives of political parties in the House of Representatives, have declared their support for Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano amidst a speakership dispute.

A manifesto of support signed by 26 lawmakers holding key positions was released, with Deputy Speaker Dan Fernandez stating that at least 202 House members have signed it.

These legislators committed to transparently deliberate on the 2021 national budget in the interest of the Filipino people, aiming to prevent any derailment of its passage.

They cited Cayetano's guidance over the past 13 months as invaluable, highlighting the swift passage of the 2020 General Appropriations Act without "pork, parked funds, or corruption."

The lawmakers reaffirmed their full and unequivocal support for Cayetano and the House leadership, aligning with the President's desire for the chamber's membership to choose its own leaders.
