Hontiveros to probe Duterte on drug war, EJKs

Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros views former President Rodrigo Duterte as the "epitome" of the drug war and extrajudicial killings, stating she will question him in a potential Senate probe.

Talk of a Senate investigation into the drug war intensified following revelations from House Quad Committee hearings implicating Duterte, Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, and Senator Bong Go.

While Dela Rosa is pushing for a Senate probe into EJKs during the drug war, some lawmakers question his impartiality.

Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero aims to launch the Senate's drug war probe as early as next week during the recess, likely led by the Blue Ribbon committee or the committee on justice.

Hontiveros believes a Senate committee of the whole, rather than a single committee, would provide a more comfortable space for victims and victim-survivors of the drug war and EJKs to speak.

She also stated that a Senate probe would "complement" the investigation by the House of Representatives' quad committee, adding Duterte's perspective.
