Govt assures public of precautionary measures vs coronavirus

The Philippine government assures the public that it is implementing necessary precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) following the confirmation of the first case in the country and the World Health Organization's declaration of a public health emergency of international concern.

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar stated that various government agencies are working together to avoid an outbreak, and the PCOO's Laging Handa team is providing updates on all government media platforms.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has directed local government units (LGUs) to form their own Coronavirus Task Forces to enforce stringent measures, intensify information campaigns, and report possible contaminations.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and its attached agencies have implemented safety protocols since January 23, coordinating with the DOH and Bureau of Quarantine to secure transport terminals and monitor arriving passengers.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reactivated its communicable disease preparedness procedures in all its-operated airports, especially those with international flights.

The Civil Aviation Board (CAB) has indefinitely suspended all air services between Wuhan and the Philippines, while the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) mandated public utility vehicle drivers and conductors to wear face masks.

The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) advised ship owners and operators to monitor the virus, report suspected cases, and ensure their personnel are equipped with necessary information and medical equipment.

Secretary Andanar urged the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with authorities to collectively manage and contain the spread of the 2019-nCoV.
