AJ Edu ready for bigger role in Gilas Pilipinas' FIBA Asia Cup campaign

AJ Edu is prepared to play a crucial role for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, which begins next week in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Having Edu join the team for a longer preparation period is seen as a significant advantage by head coach Tim Cone.

Edu recently showcased his readiness by stepping up in the absence of June Mar Fajardo during a send-off match against the Macau Black Bears, contributing 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in a 103-98 victory.

Coach Cone highlighted the importance of Edu's extended presence, contrasting it with a previous tournament where Edu had very limited practice time.

Unlike a previous tournament where Edu had only a few days and practices to integrate, he was able to fully join the team's two-week build-up for the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup.

Edu is embracing the increased frontcourt responsibility he will share with Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar, especially with Kai Sotto recovering from an ACL injury.
