Gilas Pilipinas names 12-man roster for FIBA Asia Cup

Gilas Pilipinas has finalized its 12-man roster for the FIBA Asia Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, set to run from August 5 to 17.

The squad includes familiar faces such as Justin Brownlee, June Mar Fajardo, Scottie Thompson, and Dwight Ramos, with several players managing injuries.

Coach Tim Cone has selected the same players who participated in the final window of the Asia Cup Qualifiers in February.

AJ Edu, Carl Tamayo, Chris Newsome, Jamie Malonzo, Japeth Aguilar, and Kevin Quiambao are also part of the team.

RJ Abarrientos and Troy Rosario were the two players cut from the pool and did not travel with the team.

The Philippines will begin their group stage campaign against Chinese Taipei on August 6, followed by matches against New Zealand on August 7, and Iraq on August 9.

The team has already landed in Jeddah ahead of the tournament.

Their performance in the group stage will determine if they advance directly to the quarterfinals on August 14 or play in the qualification round on August 11.
