GenSan tightens OFW, LSI monitoring after quarantine evasion attempt

General Santos City has intensified its monitoring of returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and locally stranded individuals (LSIs) after one OFW attempted to evade mandatory quarantine.

The OFW, who was stranded in Metro Manila, was apprehended by the Philippine National Police and brought to a pension house for the required 14-day isolation.

A total of 222 OFWs and 12 LSIs have returned to General Santos City as of Friday morning.

Mayor Ronnel Rivera assured that safety and health protocols are observed and personnel are provided with proper personal protective equipment.

The city is facing challenges in managing returning residents due to uncertainties in their health status.

A female OFW who arrived through a sweeper flight tested positive for COVID-19 in Singapore, prompting further testing upon her arrival in the Philippines.
