Francis Libiran designs 'Sinag' barong for PH Olympic athletes

Filipino athletes competing in the Paris Olympics will wear custom-made barong pieces designed by Francis Libiran, named 'Sinag', for the opening ceremony.

The barong features a detachable red and blue silk sling with embroidery inspired by the Pintados warriors, symbolizing fierceness in battle.

Designs for flag bearers Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam, as well as other athletes like Sam Catantan and Aleah Finnegan, draw inspiration from the sun's rays and the Philippine flag's colors.

The Olympic barong is crafted from pina-jusi sourced from Kalibo, Aklan.

Francis Libiran was commissioned by the Philippine Olympic Committee, led by President Abraham N. Tolentino, to create these unique outfits.

Philippine athletes have shared photos of themselves wearing the 'Sinag' barong on social media ahead of the opening ceremony.
