Filipina rower Delgaco out of medal contention at Paris Olympics

Filipina rower Joanie Delgaco has been eliminated from medal contention in the Paris Olympics after finishing fifth in her semifinal C/D placement round.

She will compete in Final D for the 19th to 24th overall places, with her best possible ranking being 19th.

Delgaco finished six seconds ahead of the last placer in her race, clocking 8:00.18.

Her national team coach cited fatigue as a factor due to her competing four times in five days.

Delgaco has a good chance to finish within the Top 2 of Final D, as only one other competitor had a better time in the classification race.

Regardless of her final ranking, Delgaco is the first female Filipino rower to reach the Olympic quarterfinal and the second Filipino rower overall to do so.
