SC clarifies 20% discount for seniors on medicines, medical devices

Senior citizens in the Philippines can now avail of their 20-percent discount on medicines and medical devices without presenting purchase booklets, as per FDA Circular No. 2025-005.

This aligns with a Department of Health (DOH) Administrative Order No. 2024-0017, issued in December, which aimed to reduce regulatory burdens for senior citizens.

The FDA circular clarifies that the removal of the purchase booklet requirement applies to all FDA-licensed establishments dispensing medicines and medical devices.

According to the FDA circular, beneficiaries only need to present their Senior Citizens' card or any valid ID establishing their Filipino citizenship, along with a prescription.

The discount is applicable to medicines and devices approved by the FDA.
