FDA approves 6 vaccine brands for COVID-19 second booster shots

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved six vaccine brands for use as second booster shots against COVID-19.

These approved brands include Pfizer, Moderna, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Sputnik Light, and Janssen.

The National Vaccination Operations Center is awaiting final recommendations from the Health and Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) to finalize guidelines.

The rollout of second booster shots, initially planned for April 20, is now expected to begin next week.

Healthcare workers, senior citizens, and immunocompromised individuals will be prioritized to receive the second booster.

The second booster dose can be administered four months after the first booster shot.

The program will initially be implemented in the National Capital Region (NCR) before expanding to other regions like Region 3 and Region 4A upon their request.
