Ex-CJHDevCo execs indicted for P11.2M Forest Lodge hotel unit fraud

Robert John Sobrepeña and Ramon Jimenez, former executives of Camp John Hay Development Corporation (CJHDevCo), have been indicted for alleged fraud in connection with the sale of lease rights to two Forest Lodge Hotel units worth P11.2 million.

The charges, filed before the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) in Baguio, are for "other deceits" under Article 318 of the Revised Penal Code.

Spouses Monica Carla and Erwin Galang filed the complaint after allegedly being sold leasehold rights to Units 549 and 554 of The Forest Lodge Hotel on false claims.

The buyers paid P11.2 million to Fil-Estate Management Inc. (FEMI), represented by Jimenez, with the assurance that the units were validly leased until October 7, 2046.

Sobrepeña, who was chairman of both CJHDevCo and FEMI at the time, was allegedly aware that the original lease between CJHDevCo and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) had already been rescinded, despite assurances of valid lease to the buyers.

The indictment comes as the property was already under government reclamation, adding to the fraudulent nature of the sale.
