Former Ako Bicol Rep Zaldy Co skips infra hearing, faces possible arrest

Former Ako Bicol Representative Zaldy Co failed to appear at an Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) hearing on October 14 concerning alleged anomalous flood control projects.

The ICI is studying its next moves against Co, who was summoned along with former Speaker Martin Romualdez.

ICI executive director Brian Keith Hosaka stated that they are prepared to ask a regional trial court to cite Co in contempt for his absence, although this presents a challenge as Co is reportedly not in the country.

If the court grants the petition, an arrest warrant may be issued against Co.

Co was subpoenaed to testify about budget insertions and flood control projects he oversaw as chair of the House Committee on Appropriations.

He resigned from the House of Representatives last month, citing threats and denial of due process, but has stated he plans to return to the country.

Co is also accused of masterminding irregular insertions in the 2025 General Appropriations Act and accepting kickbacks from government infrastructure deals.

His current whereabouts remain unclear, with claims he is seeking medical treatment in the US.
