Escudero confident SolGen can defend 2025 national budget

Senate President Francis Escudero expressed confidence that Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra can successfully defend the legality of the 2025 national budget before the Supreme Court.

Escudero explained that the bicameral conference committee report grants authority to the finance and appropriations committees to finalize budget details, including filling any gaps or making corrections.

He asserted that this delegated authority is within the established parameters and does not necessitate returning the budget bill to the bicameral committee for every minor adjustment.

Escudero believes the Supreme Court's role is to ensure the congressional budget process is conducted correctly, rather than to interfere with Congress's power over national funding.

Marikina 2nd District Representative Stella Quimbo previously confirmed the presence of blank items in the report, clarifying they were solely for the final computation of amendments.
