Duterte understands if Cayetano stays until December for budget passage

President Rodrigo Duterte understands if Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano remains in his post until December to ensure the timely passage of the 2021 national budget.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that Duterte's understanding stems from the need to avoid delays in approving the budget, which includes a significant stimulus package for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Roque added that the President leaves leadership decisions to the members of the House of Representatives.

However, Roque stressed that regardless of the leadership outcome, the timely passage of the budget by December is non-negotiable.

He expressed hope that any leadership disputes would be resolved after the budget has been passed.

The timely passage of the budget is considered critical by the President, especially given the current health crisis and the need for a P2.5 trillion stimulus package.
