Duterte to visit Boracay to boost domestic tourism

President Duterte will visit Boracay on March 12 to spearhead a campaign aimed at revitalizing domestic tourism and to inspect the island's transformations since its rehabilitation.

This visit marks the President's first time in Boracay since its reopening.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat stated that the Chief Executive's visit is also his way of promoting domestic tourism.

The DOT is prioritizing domestic tourism due to anticipated declines in international arrivals and existing travel restrictions, and Boracay's occupancy rate is down 40 percent.

The private and public sectors are collectively keeping the tourism industry afloat, with the Department of the Interior and Local Government assuring protocols down to the barangay level and the Department of Transportation ensuring strict cleanliness and sanitation protocols in airports and airplanes.
