State to issue order regulating price of COVID tests
Malacañang is optimistic that President Rodrigo Duterte will soon sign an executive order imposing a price cap on COVID-19 tests.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque stated that the proposed order is awaiting the President's signature after reviews by the Office of the Executive Secretary and the Department of Health (DOH).
Roque noted that some testing facilities charge excessively high prices, and a price cap would make testing more affordable, potentially boosting the government's test, trace, and treat campaign.
The DOH had previously recommended a price cap due to significant variations in testing costs among different laboratories.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat also expressed support for the price cap, advocating for it to cover both RT-PCR and antigen tests to facilitate affordable travel for everyone following the easing of movement restrictions.
