Duterte thanks Qatar emir for typhoon aid offer

President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his sincere gratitude to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, for Qatar's offer of humanitarian assistance to areas devastated by Typhoon Odette.

The appreciation was conveyed during a telephone conversation between the two leaders on December 21, 2021, where Duterte also received an expression of sympathy and solidarity.

Duterte welcomed Qatar's offer to help in the rehabilitation of communities in the Visayas and northern Mindanao that were severely affected by the typhoon.

Both leaders agreed to have their respective interior ministers coordinate directly to facilitate the entry of Qatari humanitarian aid into the Philippines.

The President also took the opportunity to thank the Qatari government for its humane treatment of Filipinos residing and working in Qatar, calling Qatar a consistent friend of the Philippines.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani reciprocated by stating that Filipinos are appreciated in Qatar and praised President Duterte's strong leadership.
