Duterte approves P5-B additional funds for OFW quarantine
President Rodrigo Duterte has approved an additional P5 billion to cover the quarantine expenses of returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
This additional budget was confirmed by Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and will cover hotel expenses due to the extended quarantine period.
Returning OFWs are mandated to undergo quarantine in a government-run facility and take an RT-PCR test on their seventh day.
If the RT-PCR test yields a negative result, OFWs must complete their 14-day quarantine period at home.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) had earlier stated the need for P9 billion more to address the longer quarantine requirements prompted by new COVID-19 variants.
Over 500,000 OFWs have been repatriated since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
