DSWD to provide aid to 18 million low-income households

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has guaranteed aid for 18 million low-income households impacted by the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

The assistance, mandated under Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, will be provided to individuals identified as poor, those with low incomes, those without work or pay, and those without pensions or benefits.

The DSWD, in collaboration with other government agencies, has launched the 'Social Amelioration' program, which includes food and non-food items and financial assistance through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).

The program will utilize the existing 'listahanan' database to identify beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and unconditional cash transfer (UCT) program to validate lists submitted by LGUs.

Financial support will range from PHP5,000 to PHP8,000, based on regional wage levels, to ensure households can afford basic necessities like food and medicine.

In Northern Mindanao, beneficiary-families will receive PHP6,000 each, comprising PHP2,700 in food and non-food items and PHP3,300 in cash.

The DSWD will also provide livelihood assistance grants to displaced workers in the informal sector after the quarantine period has been lifted.
